Co. Westmeath straddles the centre of Ireland, and Lough Bawn House is an excellent holiday base for daily tours - Westwards along the River Shannon, to the historic towns of Athlone (88 kms), Mullingar (18 kms) and Kells (22 kms), or east to the vibrant City of Dublin (70 kms approx).

There are numerous activities locally, visiting wonderful heritage sites, trout fishing on Lough Bane, water sports on nearby Lough Lene, horseracing and golf.  

For complete relaxation watching the resident peacocks display their plumage while taking a stroll through the gardens and then sitting watching the sun setting over Lough Bane is to be recommended.

There really is a lot to see and do in this area such as Tullynally Castle and Gardens nearby in Castlepollard, Newgrange and Trim Castle as well as the more intimate and soulful places such as Fore Abbey and Loughcrew Cairns.
